Rankings / How We Score
How We Score Oil Change Apps
Each app is scored out of 100 on ten things a mobile oil change van needs, each weighted by what it costs a van to go without. Every fact comes from the vendor's own website, and the site is published by Mobile Service Sync, which ranks its own app first and was built around these same needs.
Ten Criteria, Weighted for the Road
A lube bay never pays for the drive to a customer, never loses its connection in a parking garage, and never takes a booking from a town it does not serve. A van pays for all three, and the weights below lean that way on purpose.
| Criterion | Weight | Why it carries that weight |
|---|---|---|
| Vehicle records with plate or VIN lookup | 15 | The vehicle is the job. Software that files work under a person or a property makes you retype the year, make, model and engine at every visit. |
| Route optimization | 12 | Drive time is the cost a shop with bays never pays. Putting a day's stops in order is the feature that pays for the software. |
| Technician app on iPhone and Android | 10 | The tech is in a driveway, not at a desk. The app has to carry the day: stops, navigation, inspections, payment. |
| Works with no signal | 10 | Parking garages, apartment lots and rural roads drop signal. A job that cannot be closed until the van finds a bar is a job that gets forgotten. |
| Online booking that respects your area and capacity | 10 | A booking from forty minutes outside your area, or at a time no van is free, is worse than no booking. |
| Fleet accounts | 10 | One fleet is forty vehicles, a PO and net terms. It is the steadiest money in mobile service, and it needs its own pricing and billing rules. |
| Two-way texting | 8 | Customers answer texts. On-my-way, running-late and follow-up all live in the thread. |
| Automatic review requests | 5 | Reviews decide who gets the next call. A request that goes out on its own goes out every time. |
| Stock counted per van | 5 | Oil, filters and parts ride in the van. Stock counted at a warehouse does not tell you what the van can do today. |
| Published price, month to month, free trial | 15 | A small business should see the price, try it without a card and leave when it wants. Demos, quotes and annual contracts cost time and lock you in. |
Six Levels a Cell Can Earn
A criterion on the plan a one-van business would buy earns its whole weight. One that is partial, kept for a higher plan or sold as an add-on earns half. One the vendor says it lacks, or never mentions, earns nothing.
| Level | Share of the weight | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| Included | 100% | On the plan a one-van operation would buy first. |
| Higher plan | 50% | Only on a pricier plan, named with its price on the review. |
| Add-on | 50% | Sold separately, on top of the plan. |
| Partial | 50% | Present but partial: a browser app instead of a store app, inventory per store instead of per van, reminder texts with no stated way to reply. |
| Not offered | 0% | The vendor's own material says it is not offered, or says the opposite is required. |
| Not stated | 0% | The vendor's site does not say. We never score silence as a yes, and never print it as a no. |
Questions About the Method
- Who publishes this site?
- Mobile Service Sync, which makes one of the six apps scored here and ranks it first. The criteria were chosen because a mobile oil change needs them, and Mobile Service Sync was built around them, so weigh the ranking knowing both.
- Where do the facts about other apps come from?
- From each vendor's own pages: pricing, features, help center articles, terms of service and app store listings. Every cell on a review links the page it came from and carries the date it was read.
- Why does a quick lube system lose points for things a bay never needs?
- Because this site scores software for a van, not for a bay. LubeSoft and PM Attendant may be the right choice for a store with bays; the score says how they would serve a business whose shop is a vehicle.
- What if a vendor says a cell is wrong?
- Send the page that shows it to hello@mobileservicesync.com. A cell changes as soon as the vendor's own material says something different, and the review's date moves with it.
